A couple of months prior to PACIFIC 2004, DMG was approached by Australian Submarine Corporation
Ship Building, to see if we were available to construct a model of a proposed 27 Metre Fast Attack Craft.
The Vessel, named the 27M KRAIT Class, was a beautifully designed, water jet propelled high speed craft
capable of over 50 knots. Plans were provided by ASC and a moulded fibre-glass hull was produced in
1:48 scale by APS Models.
The model took shape quickly as very limited time was available to build this model which was
required for display at PACIFIC 2004. The upper works were completed in Evergreen Plastics and several
parts were moulded to enable copies to be made for the model. Three 25mm rapid fire guns had to be
produced for mounting on the model with one forward of the bridge and one on each quarter. The model was
mounted on a polished timber base with a Perspex display case and delivered directly to the South
Australian Defence Industries stand.
