In 2003 DMG was requested to construct a number of models for AKZO NOBEL International Paints,
the supplier of Marine Coatings to the Royal Australian Navy. The models were to be two 1:150 scale ANZAC
Class Frigates for their Sydney and Perth offices and a 1:72 scale FREMANTLE Class Patrol Boat for their
Cairns based operations.
The FREMANTLE was the first model completed with the ANZAC models following closely behind. All three
models were constructed with cast fibre-glass hulls with styrene superstructures and masts and many
cast polyurethane fittings. The FREMANTLE hull was produced by a friend in Wagga Wagga, NSW, whilst
fittings were made and cast by DMG and APS Models.
The model was completed in the standard RAN N42 Storm Grey colour scheme with Pewter non-skid
decks and turned out to be a beautiful model with a length of just over 550mm (23 inches). The model
was encased in a Perspex display case and polished Australian timber base. |
