| As a gift for a friend at Raytheon in Canberra, Russ built a small desk top model of the Raytheon Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile
(ESSM) and the new Theatre Ballistic Missile Defence (TBMD) Missile, the SM-3.
Raytheon were so impressed by these models, that an order was placed in early 2003 for a number of additional models of the
ESSM and the SM-2 Standard missile used by the RAN. Also ordered were models of the PHALANX Close In Weapon System (CIWS) used
by the RAN and many other Navies around the world.
The ESSM is built to a scale of 1:10, the SM-2 to a scale of 1:15 and the PHALANX built to 1:35. All these models will be used
as corporate gifts from Raytheon Australia to their clients. The PHALANX is completely casst in polyurethane resin whilst the missiles
nose, tails and fins are also cast, with the bodies consisting of styrene tube.
