| The model of HMAS WESTRALIA (AO-195) has been built to a scale of 1:250. Her hull is built of timber
and fibre-glassed whilst the superstructure has been constructed from plastic and photo-etched brass parts.
The model was being built for a client but unfortunately the sale fell through, however she was
quickly snapped up by an avid ship model collector in the USA where the model now resides. She will be
joined by several other models of RAN ships in the near future.
The real WESTRALIA started life in the Royal Navy as RFA APPLELEAF and was leased and subsequently
purchased by the RAN as the Fleets second tanker which is based in WA. She will be decommissioned in the
next couple of years to make way for a new tanker that has recently been announced by the Australian
Government. |
