2008 and early 2009 have been a busy time for Defence Models & Graphics. We have been made most welcome and have settled in well into our new country town of Tumbarumba
in the NSW Snowy Mountains.
An order from the Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance in early 2008 was completed in April with the delivery of three models of the new “HOBART” Class Air Warfare Destroyer as part
of the contract with the Commonwealth Government. Following these was an order for two more models from RAYTHEON Australia, a partner in the Alliance. These two models,
one for head office in Canberra and the other for their Sydney office were delivered in August.
We are now constructing 50 small models of the AWD as presentation models for the Alliance in a scale of 1:700. Also being constructed are several models including a
1:100 scale AWD model for Lockheed Martin Corporation, USA.
Another large project for Defence is the construction of models of the upgraded “ANZAC” Class Frigates. Two models in the scale of 1:72 are being built for Defence Material
Organization. Along with these two models, we have been asked to rebuild an existing model of the ANZAC in 1:50 scale. Along with the three DMO models we are constructing
two models for CEA Technologies who have designed and built the new RADAR an Fire Control systems to be fitted to the ships. All the models will reflect the new
Anti–Ship Missile Defence upgrade which include a new foremast, main mast and other systems. The “ANZAC” Class ships will look very different when the upgrade is completed with
the new CEA Technologies CEA-FAR and CEA-MOUNT Radar and Fire-Control.
In other areas we are constructing three models of the C-130J-30 HERCULES transport aircraft for Australian Aerospace in Brisbane. These models are being built in 1:72
scale and show the aircraft in their new dark grey colour schemes.
A lot of models in our workshop, in various stages of construction, are for private collections. These include a collection of all Army Aviation assets in the scale of 1:48
whilst another collection of current RAAF aircraft is being built in a scale of 1:144.
Many other projects are in final negotiations at the moment and contracts should be signed in the very near future. More on these projects later.
